JUNE ARTICLE

MY HELP COMES FROM THE LORD

We are in the 6th month of this year. It feels like we just started the year, and it seems so surreal to look back and see how fast almost half of the year has gone by! Life is getting harder by the day, especially in these times we’re living in, where everything seems fast paced, bizarre and erratic. We often find ourselves in situations where even mundane things become a drudgery. On one side, technologies and inventions are on the rise and on the other hand, humanity is confronted with basic issues of life which seems to go on endlessly, with pain, loneliness, anxiety, depression and without any hope. The things that are we face leave us questioning many things, wondering about our very existence.

People in the Bible, experienced very similar situations in their lives. What did they do when they faced difficulties and uncertainties that left them with the same questions that we face today, more than 2000 years after? They turned to God! Either they cried out to Him, pouring out their fears, declaring His goodness and sovereignty over their lives like David, or they sang praises to Him and worshipped Him when they were bound in prison like Paul & Silas, or they just surrendered everything to God saying, “even though He would slay me, I will still hope in Him” like Job and Daniel and his friends. As the psalmist declared, “My help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth”. It is He who has given us this life according to His sovereign plan and purpose and it is He who will help and carry us through as we journey through this life.

Like the prophets of the old said, we’re living in exciting times where they longed to be. Not because life is free from problems, but because we have the greatest helper, wonderful counsellor, great teacher, gentle comforter, the Holy Spirit, who dwells inside us continually. And we have the Word of God to guide us to His truths and give us hope that is eternal in Him. And we have one another, as brothers and sisters of the same Father, to love, forebear, forgive, uphold and share with. We are not left alone with the burdens of this life like the world, but we have Jesus Christ who never leaves us nor forsakes us.

So, let us look to the Lord at all times, seeking to be in His presence in the quietness of our spirits, where our peace, joy and strength comes from. Let us also be there for each other, to lend an ear that listens, a heart that understands and empathises, a shoulder that can be leaned and cried upon, and mostly looking to God in prayer together for His perfect will to be done.

GOD BLESS
